My beautiful nephew, Jacob James, was born on Christmas Eve, at 9:19pm, 2011. He came into the world at 7 pounds, 1 ounce, 21 inches longs, with 10 adorable fingers, 10 adorable toes, huge feet, and an incredibly sweet temperament.  He has stolen the hearts of everyone in the family, and his proud Aunt (me!) can't get enough of him. There has never been a cuter baby! We are singing, dancing, and telling stories every day!  Welcome to the world, baby Jacob!

Italy! 07/21/2011

Bonjounro! Italy was incredible!  Beautiful, full of history, and HOT HOT HOT.  We began our trip by flying into Milan, touring the Duomo rooftops, and then moved on to the Alpe di Suisi.  We hiked and enjoyed the Italian Alps, and then visited the city of romance, Venice.  After gondola rides, tours of St. Mark's and gelato at Florian cafe, we moved on to the Renaissance art of Florence, and bicycle tour through the Chianti countryside.  From Florence, we moved on to Vernazza on the Cinque Terre, walked along the via dell-Amore, and enjoyed the cliff-side hiking and beach side views of the Ligurian sea. No trip to Italy is complete without a visit to Romw, where we toured the ruins of the Colosseum, the Forum, the Sistine Chapel, and the beautiful square and church of St. Peter's Basilica.  Click on the link below to access pictures.

Tuckermans Ravine Spring Skiing! 04/09/2011

Can you ask for anything more than clear blue skies, 60 degree weather, and a party in a snow bowl?  Tuckerman's Ravine had superlative skiing today, and the Sherburne trail was in fabulous shape, to make for a fantastic spring ski!! We soaked up the sun and watched some seriously fantastic skiing, and some spectacular tumbling falls (no injuries that we saw). Jeff skied the right gully, which was terrifying to watch, and apparently steep enough to be scary, even for him.  When it was time to head out, we skied along the brook down to the Sherburne trail and all I can say, is the "Little Headwall" is a huge misnomer. But the trail was in fantastic shape and we were back at the car before 3:00.  Good times!

A great weekend away in the North! 02/06/2011

So, we've got it figured out.  If you leave after work on Friday and head north, it FEELS like a three-day weekend by Saturday, even thought it wasn't!  We had a lovely room at the Christmas Farm Inn, and a weekend of absolutely gorgeous winter weather. We had a day of skiing at Widcat, and I've decided, after my third trip to that mountain, that despite my efforts, I hate it.  It's too crowded, too steep, too windy,  BLAH.  But, the views are unbeatable!  Sunday we had a great day of XC skiing in Jackson on a fantastic black-diamond loop up Windy Hill and in the East pasture.  Working on perfecting the downhill-corner-at-21-mph turn!  Good times!

Cross country skiing up at Oliverian Brook Trail in Albany, NH.  The trails were in wonderful condition, we had great views, and despite starting off with freezing cold fingers, we had an awesome day of skiing.  We climbed some MAJOR hills, avoided some major rivers, and skied over beaver-dams.  We even saw an ermine! Another great day in the mountains!

This has been a great holiday season!  We checked out the Manchester Christmas parade with the folks and Austin, and Christmas Eve was the first ski of the season and a great birthday present.  Pat's Peak was "100%" open, and we had a great day on the slopes, and then birthday dinner and Christmas with my family. Christmas Day was crazy and fun, with lots of traveling to Mike & Jess's, Wii sword-fighting, and too much eating!  Merry Christmas to all, and looking forward to a fantastic New Year!

Kingdom trails..always good riding! September 2010 09/29/2010

Kingdom trails never disappoints, and last weekend was no exception!  After  a late arrival at the campground on Friday night, we set up the tent, listened to much drunken debauchery, and then hit the trails bright and early Saturday morning.  The trails were in excellent condition, and the riding was superb, despite being the "fast group.."  all I can say is if I'm in the fast group, I'd hate to see the slow group!  Four hours of excellent trail riding, 16 miles, and one hot-fudge sundae later, and we were back at camp to call it a night.  Good times!

The Jungfraujoch: our coolest day in Switzerland! 09/12/2010

How many activities can you pack into one day in the Jungfrau?  How about a cable car/train ride to 15,000 feet, a cross-glacier hike, a mountain-hut lunch, a "holy crap look at the EIGER!" hike through alpine meadows, some ultra-touristy souvenir shopping in Grindelwald valley, and dinner on the side of a cliff?  WHEW!  One of the best weather and most scenic days in the alps was a gorgeous sunny morning with spectacular views.  We took cable cars and a fantastic 1-hour train ride through the Eiger (with a whole car load of Korean tourists..complete with Korean tour guide explaining all of the amazing sites...in Korean).  At the top of the Jungfrau, 12,000 feet, we hiked up to the plateau to get some incredible 360 degree views of the alps, and some close-ups of the Monch. We visited the ice-palace, a fantastic, ethereal tunnel through the glacier where we slid and slipped and ice-skated our way through the freezing ice to a number of sparkling ice sculptures.  We visited the observation platform, where you can look out ofver the entire Aletsch glacier, the largest in the Alps.  We then hiked about an hour in the crazy sun (and had the sunburn to prove it!) across the glacier to the Mountain hut, where we slipped and slid our way to some Gulasch soup (maybe the best soup on earth) and some bread and chocolate. After getting our fill of the Jungfrau, we bought brat and pouletwurst lunches and sat at the foot of the mountains, and then indulged in amazingly creamy Swiss ice cream for the hike down. We hiked down from Kleine Scheidegg to the ultra-tourist mecca, Grindelwald, did some shopping, and the train-cable-car-more trained our way back up to Murren, where we had dinner overlooking the Eiger!

A rainy day at Trummlebach falls 09/12/2010

Our Rick Steves' Guidebook said that Trummlebach falls was an "excellent rain-day hike."  It turns out, he's right, but mostly becuase you get so wet at the falls that it doesn't matter if it's raining!  he falls are a series of ten glacier-fed waterfalls, inside a mountain, illuminated and accessible via a number of (slippery) pathways and a pretty cool diagonal elevator.  The falls drain the run-off from the three big mountains of the Jungfrau region: the Eiger, the Monch, and the Jungrau, and pound out about 20,000 liters of water per second!  the falls were wet,  as loud as a freight train, and amazingly powerful as they funneled their way from the top to the river at the bottom.
